Big Maths Beat That! tests

Each year group has a set of 10 sheets which cover key addition and multiplication number facts. There is a time limit for the sheet but this is the target time and can only be achieved once the knowledge of the number facts is really secure.

The following activities can be used to support your child with maths work. Many of the sheets were collected from other school websites. If they are copyright, please let us know and we will remove them.

How to use children begin each challenge by the rocket where there is a multiplication fact; children must answer this sum. Once completed a division sum is generated, this pattern continues until they reach the target planet. When the last sum as been solved the children must check to see if their final answer matches the number on the target planet.

The first challenge begins with the Sun, moving onto Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and finally the dwarf planet Pluto. Each challenges get progressively harder; starting with basic multiplication facts and corresponding division facts moving to multiplying two 2 digit multiples of 10. Other mental strategies needed include; doubling and halving; multiplying multiples of 10; and multiplying larger two digits numbers by 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Multiplication Race

http://www.3to11maths.com/multiplication-race.html

How to use: choose the appropriate track (there is one for each of the times tables; 2 to 12), children to complete the track by multiplying the number on the opposing track by the specified times table. Continue doing this around the track until you reach the finish line

Set a time for tracks to be completed correctly before moving to the next multiplication race (allow between 1 to 3 minutes to complete depending on competency). Children can record their time and score in the centre of each track.
